Who Can Receive a Pension in Italy?
To be eligible for the so-called Pensione di Vecchiaia (old age pension), the standard requirement in Italy is to have reached the age of 67.
However, age is not the only factor; it is necessary to have accumulated at least 20 years of contributions.
There are exceptions for workers who started their activities before 1996 under the pay-as-you-go system or for those who fall into categories of physically demanding work ( lavori usuranti ).
In addition to the age-based retirement option, there is the Pensione Anticipata , which allows for the termination of work activities before the age of 67, provided that the worker has a very long contribution history (generally above 42 years for men and 41 for women).
It is important to note that age requirements may be adjusted periodically by the Italian government according to the life expectancy of the population, which requires the insured person to always be aware of updates on the official INPS portal.
