Energy Subsidy – All About the Mexican Benefit

Who Can Benefit from the Subsidy?

Eligibility depends on three main factors:

1. Location geographic

Some climate zones receive greater benefits, especially northern regions such as:

  • Sonora
  • Sinaloa
  • Baja California
  • Coahuila
  • Chihuahua
  • Tamaulipas

These areas have higher temperatures, justifying greater government support.

2. Monthly consumption

Families that stay within the limits stipulated by the CFE can continue to receive the subsidy. Those who exceed the limits may automatically enter the DAC tariff, losing the benefit until their consumption normalizes.

3. Season of the year

The seasonal summer subsidy is applied between May and October, a period when energy consumption skyrockets in the warmer regions.

Summer allowance 2024–2025 (updated information)

The program, announced in 2024 as reported by sources such as the Mexican economic news portal, reinforced support for regions experiencing extreme heat.

According to the publication (updated until 2025), some locations recorded increases of up to extra subsidies due to more intense temperature spikes than expected.

Among the main updates:

  • Expansion of the subsidy to more municipalities
  • Extended period in locations with prolonged heat waves.
  • Review of consumption limits to avoid entry into the DAC tariff.
  • Average reduction of 20% to 35% in bill amounts during the summer in priority areas.

The goal is to ensure that families in regions with high energy demand can maintain essential consumption without compromising their monthly income.
