What to do if not has received the payment or the letter
- Check your eligibility based on the "qualifying week" (September 15–21, 2025).
- If you haven't received the letter and believe you are eligible, check the official website. “Check if you need to claim” and follow the complaint process.
- If payment has not been received by January 28, 2026, please contact... Winter Fuel Payment Center as per instructions on the official page.
Also, let someone you trust know that you are eligible — many elderly people receive it automatically, but some cases require family members to update bank or residential details.
What if my income is high? (recovery through HMRC)
If your income is above £35.000HMRC can recover the Winter Fuel Payment by changing your tax code for tax year 2026–2027 or by adding the amount to your 2025–2026 Self Assessment. Check your tax situation if you think your income exceeds this limit.
