How to Register / Apply for the Benefit
Check if your family is registered in the CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs).
The Unified Registry (CadÚnico) is a requirement for most enrollments. Contact the CRAS (Social Assistance Reference Center) in your municipality to update or add your registration. Many municipalities allow online scheduling.
Confirm your NIS (Social Security Number).
The NIS (Social Identification Number) is generated by the CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs); without it, it is not possible to cross-reference the databases with the distributor. Request your NIS at the CRAS (Social Assistance Reference Center) or check it on your CadÚnico registration certificate.
Verify that the contract holder has the correct information..
The Social Tariff is granted per consumer unit — any family member who is registered in the CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs) and has a NIS (Social Identification Number) can enable the consumer unit to receive the benefit, even if the account is in the name of another relative.
Confirm receipt of BPC. (where applicable).
The Ministry sends the BPC beneficiary database monthly to distributors for automatic discount granting when there is a match between the CPF (Brazilian taxpayer ID) and the consumer unit.
If you are already eligible and are not receiving the discount, contact the distributor..
Many companies have online channels for requesting the Social Tariff; in some cases, the benefit is already applied automatically through cross-referencing databases (see item on automation).
Necessary Documents and Proof
To apply for or maintain the Social Tariff benefit, it is necessary to present some essential documents.
First, it is important that all residents of the consumer unit have a CPF (Brazilian taxpayer identification number), and it is highly recommended that these registrations are up-to-date in the CadÚnico (Brazilian social welfare registry).
In addition, a valid identity document, such as an ID card or other recognized official document, must be presented.
It is also necessary to provide proof of residence, if requested by the energy distributor, and proof of family income when required for verification in the CadÚnico (Single Registry for Social Programs).
Finally, in cases where there is continuous use of essential electrical equipment, it is mandatory to present a medical report or certificate proving the need.
